a website for farmers
Attadale Farm
// a case study //
From this…
To this!
Steve & Sandy at Attadale Farm are two lovely people that run their farm using responsible practices. I was eager to redesign their website to really show off the hard work that they put into their farm so that it could more easily seen by other people.
Responsible farming practices are hard to come by here in NE Missouri, and to anyone considering an alternative source of local meat, Attadale Farm’s website and way of conveying of their mission and practices would have to be displayed in an enticing and digestible way to honor the worthiness and importance of those practices.
Steve had worked to put together their first website, to get their farm online, in front of people in the area looking for grass-fed and pasture-raised meats. His content on the website was great— full of information about their practices, their values, and the types of animals they raise. In our process, we helped take the ocean of information that was offered on the website, and transformed and rearranged the information into beautiful, digestible chunks, maintaining the integrity of the information, and filling in any holes in the copy!
They already had the cutest logo(s) featuring each type of animal that they raise. This was our jumping off point for feel and type of the website!
A lot of my work in intuitive, mixed with the knowledge of the key parts of a webpage and how information needs to be displayed to be digestible and not overwhelming to the viewer.
Special Touches / Custom Code
On the Attadale Farm website, we used custom code here and there to polish up the design in a way that can not be done with the standalone editor. This helps the site look nice, while avoiding a templated feel.
The Offerings page offers the largest glimpse of customized design. There was a lot of information about each of the offerings (but not necessarily all of the offerings!). In attempt to avoid the wall of text, or an endless page of scrolling, we created expandable tiles that gave more information about each animal that the farm raised. This customized grid also changes to suit a mobile view more clearly.
